Artmage is a Fusion deck that asks one question every turn: how many different Monster Types are on your field? Three or more switches on its negates. Every line here is built on the decklist near the end of this page, under the Forbidden/Limited list that took effect on September 3, 2026.
Types
| Monster | Type | Attribute | Level | Gets on the field by |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Artmage Graflare | Dragon | LIGHT | 5 | Summoning itself from your hand |
| Artmage Finmel | Warrior | LIGHT | 7 | Summoning itself from your hand |
| Artmage Litera | Spellcaster | LIGHT | 3 | Summoning itself from your hand |
| Medius the Pure | Fairy | DARK | 4 | Normal Summon (Acropolis gives you an extra one for it). It is not an Artmage monster. |
| Artmage Power Patron | Illusion | EARTH | 1 | Medius, or Normal Summon |
| Artmage Diactorus | Fairy | LIGHT | 8 | Fusion: Medius + 1 Artmage monster |
| Artmage Non-Finito | Illusion | EARTH | 7 | Fusion: 2 Artmage monsters, or its own method |
| Nerva the Power Patron of Creation | Illusion | EARTH | 10 | Fusion: 3 Artmage monsters, or Tribute 3 different Types. It is a Power Patron, not an Artmage monster. |
| At 3+ Types | What turns on |
|---|---|
| Diactorus | Quick Effect: negate an activation on the field and destroy that card |
| Finmel | Quick Effect in either player’s Main Phase: negate every face-up monster they control and halve their ATK this turn |
| Graflare | Its Spell/Trap destroy becomes a Quick Effect |
| Artmage Impasto -Recapture- | After negating, returns all their Spells/Traps to the hand |
Counting rules
- Only face-up monsters in your Monster Zones count. Your hand, your Field Spell and your Continuous Spells don’t.
- Two monsters with the same Type count once. Diactorus and Medius are both Fairy; Power Patron, Non-Finito and Nerva are all Illusion.
- Diactorus, Finmel and Graflare check the count when you activate them. Impasto checks it after it has banished your Fusion Monster.
The two traps
- Diactorus + Non-Finito + Nerva is only 2 Types (Fairy, Illusion). Fusions alone rarely get you there. You need Graflare, Finmel or Litera beside them.
- Impasto’s banish can drop you below 3. At exactly 3 Types, banishing a Fusion that’s the only one of its Type turns off Diactorus, Finmel and Graflare until your Fusion returns in the End Phase.
Engine
- MediusWhen it’s Normal or Special Summoned, it Special Summons Power Patron from your Deck (or adds it).
- Power Patron fusesQuick Effect, in either player’s Main Phase. It uses itself plus monsters from your hand or field. Medius + Power Patron is Diactorus. Power Patron + any Artmage monster is Non-Finito. Power Patron + two Artmage monsters is Nerva.
- Power Patron searchesWhen it goes from your hand or field to the GY, it adds an Artmage Spell/Trap. The card can’t share a name with anything in your GY.
- Acropolis searchesArtmage Academic Arcane Arts Acropolis: discard a Spell/Trap, name an Artmage monster, add it. There’s no limit on how often, but each name can be used once a turn, and you can’t name a monster you control face-up.
- Self-summonsGraflare, Finmel and Litera summon themselves during your Main Phase while you control a face-up Artmage card. Acropolis and Artmage Vandalism -Assault- both count, and so does a Normal Summoned Litera. Medius and Nerva don’t.
↺ Everything else feeds this loop.
Once per turn, by name
A second copy doesn’t reset any of these. On the opponent’s turn they’re all available again.
- Each Medius effect, each Power Patron effect, and each of Graflare’s, Finmel’s, Litera’s and Diactorus’s effects
- Each Artmage Varnish -Alteration- effect
- One Vandalism activation, and its marking effect once
- One Impasto activation
- One Artmage Pact -Awakening- effect in total
- One Non-Finito Special Summon, whichever way you summon it
- One Nerva Special Summon
Locks
- Power Patron face-up: only Fusion Monsters from your Extra Deck. That rules out S:P, Cross-Sheep, Verte, TY-PHON and Ecclesia while it’s on the field.
- After an Acropolis search resolves: for the rest of the turn, you can only Special Summon Artmage monsters, Medius, or monsters from your Extra Deck. A Nerva in the GY can’t come back, and The Fallen & The Virtuous can only revive Artmage monsters or Medius.
- Non-Finito can never be revived.
- Dominus Purge from your hand stops you activating DARK, WATER and FIRE monster effects for the rest of the Duel. That includes Medius and Ash.
Going first
The discard loop
Every Acropolis discard becomes an Artmage monster. Fuel comes from:
- spare Spells/Traps in your hand
- Power Patron’s search
- Varnish, which searches any Artmage card once Acropolis is face-up
- Litera, which returns a discarded Artmage card from your GY, so you can discard it again
Name them in this order
- Graflare first. It Sets an Artmage Spell from your Deck: Vandalism for Medius, or Varnish for a search.
- Litera second. It returns your best discard.
- Finmel last. It draws a card.
Which Fusion
- Diactorus when Medius is Power Patron’s partner and you already have your next discard lined up.
- Non-Finito when Vandalism has marked Medius or another Artmage monster is available. Non-Finito Sets a card from your Deck: Acropolis if you still need it, Impasto if you don’t.
Line 1: Medius + a spare
Normal Summon Medius the Pure. Its effect Special Summons Artmage Power Patron from your Deck.
Power Patron’s Quick Effect: Fusion Summon Artmage Diactorus using Power Patron and Medius. Power Patron’s GY effect adds Artmage Academic Arcane Arts Acropolis.
Activate Acropolis.
Acropolis: discard the spare, name Artmage Graflare, and add it.
Special Summon Graflare from your hand, and Set Artmage Varnish -Alteration- from your Deck.
Activate Varnish. With Acropolis face-up, it adds a card instead of placing one: take Artmage Impasto -Recapture-.
Acropolis: discard Impasto, name Artmage Litera, and add it.
Special Summon Litera from your hand and add Impasto back from your GY.
Set Impasto and end your turn.
Starting with Vandalism
Activate Vandalism first and add Medius. The rest of the line is the same, and Vandalism stays face-up: it’s a second Artmage card, and it can go to the GY in place of Acropolis when Acropolis would be destroyed.
Starting with Acropolis or Varnish
Place Acropolis (Varnish does that from your Deck). Discard the spare for Graflare, and have Graflare Set Vandalism, which adds Medius. Normal Summon Medius, then fuse Power Patron and Medius into Diactorus. Power Patron searches Varnish, or Impasto if Varnish is already in your GY. Finish with the Impasto and Litera loop. You end with the same board plus Vandalism.
Line 2: Vandalism alone
Activate Artmage Vandalism -Assault- and add Medius. Normal Summon Medius, which Special Summons Power Patron.
Use Vandalism’s effect on Medius. This turn, Medius can be used as an Artmage Fusion Material.
Power Patron: Fusion Summon Artmage Non-Finito using Power Patron and Medius. Non-Finito Sets Acropolis from your Deck. Power Patron adds Artmage Pact -Awakening-.
Activate Acropolis. Discard Pact and name Graflare. Special Summon Graflare and Set Varnish.
Activate Varnish and add Impasto. Discard Impasto to Acropolis and name Litera. Special Summon Litera and add Impasto back. Set it.
Line 3: Finmel + two spares
Special Summon Non-Finito by its own method: discard a spare and Tribute Finmel from your hand. Non-Finito Sets Acropolis.
Activate Acropolis. Discard the second spare and name Graflare. Special Summon Graflare and Set Vandalism.
Activate Vandalism and add Medius. Normal Summon Medius, which Special Summons Power Patron.
Power Patron: Fusion Summon Diactorus using Power Patron and Medius. Power Patron adds Impasto.
Discard Impasto to Acropolis and name Litera. Special Summon Litera, add Impasto back, and Set it.
Line 4: Medius + two spares, with Cross-Sheep
Normal Summon Medius the Pure. Its effect Special Summons Artmage Power Patron from your Deck.
Power Patron’s Quick Effect: Fusion Summon Artmage Diactorus using Power Patron and Medius, in your middle Main Monster Zone. Power Patron’s GY effect adds Artmage Academic Arcane Arts Acropolis.
Activate Acropolis. Discard a spare, name Artmage Graflare, and add it. Special Summon Graflare and Set Artmage Varnish -Alteration- from your Deck.
Activate Varnish and add Artmage Litera. Special Summon Litera, and add Varnish back from your GY.
Link Summon Cross-Sheep using Graflare and Litera, in an Extra Monster Zone. One of its arrows points at Diactorus in the middle zone, and the other at an empty zone.
Acropolis: discard Varnish, name Artmage Finmel, and add it. Special Summon Finmel into the empty zone Cross-Sheep points to, and draw 1. Cross-Sheep points to a Fusion Monster, so it Special Summons Litera from your GY.
Special Summon Artmage Non-Finito by its own method: discard the second spare and Tribute Finmel. Put it in a zone Cross-Sheep doesn’t point to. Non-Finito Sets Artmage Impasto -Recapture- from your Deck.
- DiactorusFirst, for anything activated on the field. At 4 Types it stays on even after Impasto banishes one of your Fusions.
- Start the loopWhen you need Graflare’s destroy (their Field Spell or a Set card), or once they’ve committed their board. Litera’s Quick Effect only works in their Main Phase.
- Graflare before NervaGraflare becomes Nerva’s material, so destroy with it first.
- Nerva wipeOnce they’ve committed their board.
- Dragostapelia lastNon-Finito’s Fusion is a Quick Effect. Hold it for a monster they summon after the wipe, or one that survived it.
- ImpastoFor a monster effect in the hand or GY, where Diactorus can’t reach. Before the loop, banish Non-Finito, not Diactorus: Cross-Sheep’s revive only works while it points to a Fusion Monster. After the wipe, banish Nerva, since its job is done.
- Varnish in GYIf they attack Diactorus, banish Varnish from your GY to negate the attack.
Litera’s Quick Effect: Special Summon Graflare from your GY into the free zone Cross-Sheep points to. Litera returns to your hand.
Cross-Sheep points to Diactorus, a Fusion Monster, so it Special Summons Medius from your GY. Medius’s effect Special Summons your second Power Patron from your Deck.
Graflare’s Quick Effect: destroy one of their Spells/Traps.
Power Patron: Fusion Summon Nerva the Power Patron of Creation using Power Patron, Graflare and Litera from your hand.
Power Patron’s search activates in your GY. Chain Nerva’s effect, which turns that search into “destroy all cards your opponent controls”.
When they bring out a monster after the wipe, use Non-Finito’s Quick Effect: Fusion Summon Predaplant Dragostapelia using Non-Finito and Medius. Put a Predator Counter on that monster, and the effects it activates are negated.
Their turn
- DiactorusNegates an activation on the field: Spells, Traps (including ones activated from the hand, since those are activated on the field) and monsters on the field. It can’t reach effects activated in the hand or GY.
- GraflareAt 3 Types it destroys a Spell/Trap at Quick speed. Their Field Spell, or a Set card before they can use it.
- ImpastoFor a monster effect anywhere Diactorus can’t reach. Use it after the others: it banishes your Fusion until the End Phase, and at exactly 3 Types that turns them off.
- Litera into NervaOnce they’ve committed their board. See the steps below. Litera can bring back any other Artmage monster from your hand or GY, not just Power Patron: Finmel for its negate, or Graflare with Cross-Sheep (Line 4).
- FloatsIf Diactorus is destroyed, it Special Summons Medius, which pulls Power Patron. If they attack an Artmage monster, banish Varnish from your GY to negate the attack and summon Medius from your hand.
Litera’s Quick Effect: Special Summon Power Patron from your GY. Litera returns to your hand.
Power Patron: Fusion Summon Nerva the Power Patron of Creation using Power Patron, Graflare and Litera from your hand.
Power Patron’s search activates in your GY. Chain Nerva’s effect, which turns that search into “destroy all cards your opponent controls”.

| Vandalism, no spare | Line 2 | Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera + Impasto (3) | Graflare destroy, Impasto, Pact from the GY, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |

| Graflare + Litera + 2 spares | Normal Summon Litera: it’s a face-up Artmage card, so Graflare can summon itself. Graflare Sets Varnish, which places Acropolis. Discard a spare to Acropolis for Finmel, and draw 1. Non-Finito (discard the second spare, Tribute Finmel) Sets Vandalism, which adds Medius. Normal Summon Medius with Acropolis’s extra summon; it pulls Power Patron, and they fuse into Diactorus. Power Patron searches Impasto, and you Set it | Diactorus, Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera + Impasto (4) | Diactorus negate, Graflare destroy, Impasto, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Graflare + Litera + 1 spare | Normal Summon Litera: it’s a face-up Artmage card, so Graflare can summon itself. Graflare Sets Varnish, which places Acropolis. Discard the spare to Acropolis for Finmel, and draw 1. If the draw is a Spell/Trap, use it as your second spare and carry on as in the row above | Litera, Graflare, Finmel (3), no Set card | Graflare destroy, Finmel negate, Varnish in GY |
| Acropolis + Graflare | Graflare Sets Vandalism, which adds Medius. Normal Summon Medius with Acropolis’s extra summon; it pulls Power Patron. Vandalism marks Medius, and they fuse into Non-Finito, which Sets Impasto. Power Patron searches Varnish: discard it for Litera, Litera returns it, discard it again for Finmel | Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera, Finmel + Impasto (4) | Graflare destroy, Finmel negate, Impasto, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Power Patron + Graflare | Normal Summon Power Patron. Graflare Sets Acropolis. Power Patron + Graflare fuse into Non-Finito, which Sets Impasto. Power Patron searches Varnish, which goes to Litera, then back, then to Finmel | Non-Finito, Litera, Finmel + Impasto (3) | Finmel negate, Impasto, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Power Patron + Finmel | Normal Summon Power Patron. Summon Finmel (draw 1). Power Patron + Finmel fuse into Non-Finito, which Sets Acropolis. Power Patron searches Pact: discard it for Graflare. Graflare Sets Varnish, which adds Impasto: discard it for Litera, who returns Impasto | Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera + Impasto (3) | Graflare destroy, Impasto, Pact from the GY, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Medius + Finmel | Medius pulls Power Patron. Summon Finmel (draw 1). Power Patron + Finmel fuse into Non-Finito, then the same as the row above | Non-Finito, Medius, Graflare, Litera + Impasto (4) | Graflare destroy, Impasto, Pact from the GY, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Vandalism + Finmel | Vandalism adds Medius, which pulls Power Patron. Summon Finmel (draw 1). Vandalism marks Medius, and Power Patron + Medius fuse into Non-Finito, then the same as above | Non-Finito, Finmel, Graflare, Litera + Impasto (4) | Graflare destroy, Finmel negate, Impasto, Pact from the GY, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Litera into Nerva, Varnish in GY |
| Power Patron + Litera | Normal Summon Power Patron. Power Patron + Litera from your hand fuse into Non-Finito, which Sets Acropolis. Power Patron searches Pact: discard it for Graflare. Graflare Sets Varnish, which adds Impasto | Non-Finito, Graflare + Impasto (2), or discard Impasto for Finmel: 3 Types, no trap | Impasto, Pact from the GY, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Varnish in GY |
| Finmel + 1 spare | Non-Finito (Tribute Finmel) Sets Vandalism, which adds Medius. Medius pulls Power Patron, and they fuse into Diactorus. Power Patron searches Impasto | Non-Finito, Diactorus + Impasto (2), no Field Spell | Impasto, Non-Finito’s Fusion |
| Medius + Graflare + Finmel + 2 spares | Non-Finito (Tribute Finmel) Sets Impasto. Graflare Sets Varnish, which places Acropolis. Summon Medius with Acropolis’s extra summon; it pulls Power Patron. Discard the second spare for Litera, which returns Finmel. Power Patron + Medius fuse into Diactorus, and Power Patron searches Pact. Summon Finmel. | Non-Finito, Graflare, Litera, Diactorus, Finmel + Impasto, Pact (5). Every zone is full, so skip Finmel if you want Litera or Pact live on their turn. | Diactorus negate, Graflare destroy, Finmel negate, Impasto, Non-Finito’s Fusion, Varnish in GY |
| Pact + Graflare, Finmel or Litera | Set Pact. On their turn, in their Main Phase, Pact Special Summons Medius, which pulls Power Patron. Power Patron + the Graflare, Finmel or Litera in your hand fuse into Non-Finito, which Sets Impasto. Then wait for their play. Impasto is the stronger answer: it negates a monster effect activated from anywhere, without targeting, and destroys that monster. Use it while Non-Finito is still on the field. If their threat is a face-up monster Dragostapelia can target, fuse Non-Finito + Medius into Dragostapelia instead: Impasto stays Set, and from your next turn it no longer needs an Artmage monster. | On their turn: Non-Finito, Medius + Impasto, or Dragostapelia + Impasto kept for later | Impasto or Non-Finito’s Fusion (one, not both) |
| Bricks | Graflare, Litera or Power Patron with nothing else from the engine, or Graflare + Litera with no spare. Impasto as your only engine card, or Pact without Graflare, Finmel or Litera. Varnish with no spare. | — | — |
Their turn column
- Pact from the GY: its Quick Effect from the GY, in Which answer. That’s why Litera takes back Impasto, not Pact: Pact still works from your GY, as in Line 2.
- A Set Pact (the five-monster row): on their turn, activate it to Special Summon Medius or an Artmage monster. Medius pulls Power Patron, which can then fuse. Like Litera, it needs a free Monster Zone.
- Finmel negate: works in either player’s Main Phase at 3+ Types. At exactly 3 Types, use it before Impasto.
- Nerva wipe (Line 4): Line 4’s version of Litera into Nerva. Litera brings back Graflare, Cross-Sheep revives Medius, and Medius pulls your second Power Patron. The steps are under Line 4.
- Non-Finito’s Fusion: see Extra Deck. The rest are in Their turn.
How often you open it
These numbers come from solving every possible 5-card hand from the decklist. They assume the opponent doesn’t interact and ignore Finmel’s draw.
- 92.6% make a Fusion with Acropolis on the field.
- 91.4% reach 3 Types with Diactorus and a Set Impasto or Pact.
- 8.6% miss that board. Most of those are the bricks in the table above, or a hand of hand traps and tech cards.
Going second
- Read the boardWhat negates, what protects (Loudness War, Mirrorjade), and what comes back (Dracotail Fusions return when 2+ monsters hit the GY at once).
- Open unstoppableSuper Polymerization (no one can respond to it), Forbidden Crown (no monster effects in response), The Fallen & The Virtuous (the monster it sends is a cost).
- Make them chooseVandalism’s add and Acropolis’s search are Ash targets you can afford to lose. Medius’s Special Summon is the one you can’t.
- Reach 3 TypesThen use Finmel’s negate in your Main Phase, or go for the Nerva wipe.
- Count lethalBefore you commit your last resources.
↺ Order of operations.
Which answer
| Card | Use it when | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| Super Polymerization | Their best monster can’t be targeted or destroyed | It only uses monsters on the field. Discard Power Patron as the cost: it searches from the GY. |
| Forbidden Crown | A negate monster has to be switched off this turn | The monster becomes indestructible and unaffected by activated effects, and can’t be Fusion Material. Never aim Super Poly or a wipe at it the same turn. |
| The Fallen & The Virtuous | Any face-up card, Spells and Traps included | It targets and destroys. Only 1 per turn. Send Albion (it gets you an F&V later) or Ecclesia (a second removal from the GY). |
| Infinite Impermanence | You control no cards, so play it from your hand before anything else | The negation ends at the end of the turn |
| Triple Tactics Talent | They used a monster effect during your Main Phase | Steal their best monster. Vandalism can mark it as Artmage, so Power Patron can fuse with it into Non-Finito. |
| Finmel | You’re at 3 Types during your Main Phase | Their monsters stay negated while face-up. The ATK halving ends this turn. |
| Graflare | They have Spells/Traps | On your turn it’s an Ignition Effect and needs no Types |
| Nerva | They have more cards than you | Loudness War protects their other Tuners. Dracotail Fusions come back after a wipe. |
| Pact in the GY | It’s in your GY. Discarding it to Acropolis puts it there. | Quick Effect: returns one of your Artmage monsters to your hand or Extra Deck, then destroys a card without targeting it |
| Diactorus’s position change | A Defense Position monster is in your way | Switches a face-down or Defense Position monster to Attack Position |
Super Polymerization
| On their field | Fuse into | Using |
|---|---|---|
| Two monsters with the same Attribute, different Types | Mudragon of the Swamp | Any two, yours or theirs. The easiest pick. |
| A Fusion Monster and any DARK monster | Predaplant Dragostapelia | Their Fusion, plus your Medius if they don’t have a DARK monster |
| Two Tuners | Sea Monster of Theseus | Kewl Tune: every monster they play is a Tuner, Loudness War included |
| Same Type and Attribute, different names | Garura, Wings of Resonant Life | Clown Crew’s LIGHT Beast-Warriors. Garura draws you 1 when it goes to the GY. |
| Fallen of Albaz | Albion the Branded Dragon | Their Albaz + your LIGHT Artmage monster |
| Only your monsters | Diactorus, Non-Finito or Nerva | When you’ve already used Power Patron’s Fusion this turn |
The cost
Discard Power Patron. It goes from your hand to the GY, so its search triggers. With Nerva on the field, that search can become the wipe.
Verte Anaconda
Predaplant Verte Anaconda (Limited 1) copies Super Poly from your Deck. You pay 2000 LP instead of discarding, but they can respond, and you can’t Special Summon again this turn. You can’t Link Summon it while Power Patron is face-up. Make it your last play.
Nerva wipe
Activate Vandalism and add Medius. Special Summon Graflare and Set Varnish. Activate Varnish to place Acropolis.
Normal Summon Medius, which Special Summons Power Patron. Use Vandalism’s effect on Medius.
Power Patron: Fusion Summon Nerva using Power Patron, Medius and Graflare.
Power Patron’s search activates in your GY. Chain Nerva’s effect: destroy all cards your opponent controls.
Extra Deck
| Card | How you make it | What it’s for |
|---|---|---|
| Mudragon of the Swamp | Super Poly, or Non-Finito on their turn (for example Graflare + Litera, both LIGHT) | Declare LIGHT with its Quick Effect and they can’t target your LIGHT monsters |
| Predaplant Dragostapelia | Super Poly, or Non-Finito + Medius on their turn | Once per turn it puts a Predator Counter on one of their monsters. Effects that monster activates are negated. |
| Sea Monster of Theseus | Super Poly on 2 Tuners | Kewl Tune. It has no effects; it’s a Level 5 Tuner. |
| Garura, Wings of Resonant Life | Super Poly, or Non-Finito + Power Patron (both EARTH Illusion) | Draw 1 when it goes to the GY. Doubles battle damage in its battles. |
| Albion the Branded Dragon | Super Poly on their Fallen of Albaz | Fuel for The Fallen & The Virtuous. If it was sent to the GY this turn, in the End Phase it adds or Sets a Branded Spell/Trap, and F&V counts as one. |
| Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon | Synchro: a Tuner + Level 8 total (Sea Monster + Litera). Not while Power Patron is face-up. | Fuel for F&V. From the GY, it shuffles a Level 8 Fusion Monster from your GY or banishment (Diactorus, Albion, Dragostapelia), 1 card on the field and itself back into the Deck. It also turns on F&V’s revive effect. |
| Predaplant Verte Anaconda | Link: 2 Effect Monsters, without Power Patron face-up | Copies Super Poly from your Deck, as your last play |
| Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis | Xyz from your highest-ATK monster, if they Special Summoned 2+ monsters from the Extra Deck this turn or last turn. Not while Power Patron is face-up. | While it’s face-up, monsters with 3000+ ATK can’t activate effects. That covers their bosses, and your Nerva. It can also return a monster to the hand. You can’t summon again that turn. |
| Cross-Sheep | Link: 2 monsters with different names, without Power Patron face-up | When a monster is Special Summoned to a zone it points to and it points to a Fusion Monster, it revives a Level 4 or lower monster from your GY (Medius, Power Patron or Litera). See Line 4. |
| S:P Little Knight | Link: 2 Effect Monsters, one of them a Fusion, Synchro, Xyz or Link Monster for the banish. Not while Power Patron is face-up. | Banishes 1 card on the field or in a GY, but your monsters can’t attack directly that turn. Quick Effect: banish 2 face-up monsters (one of them yours) until the End Phase. |
Lethal math
ATK: Nerva 3300, Diactorus 2800, Finmel 2400, Non-Finito 2400, Graflare 2100, Mudragon 1900, Medius 1800, Litera 400. Litera’s battles never cost you LP. Finmel halves their ATK this turn. Garura doubles battle damage in its battles. S:P’s banish stops direct attacks that turn.
Hand traps
Your tools
- Respond, don’t sit. Power Patron’s Fusion is a Quick Effect. If they target Power Patron with Effect Veiler or Infinite Impermanence, fuse in response. It still goes to the GY as material, and its search still triggers.
- Get Impasto live early. If Non-Finito Sets Impasto mid-combo, Impasto is live right away. It negates any monster-effect hand trap. On your own turn, the Fusion it banishes comes back in the End Phase.
- Punish them. A monster hand trap used during your Main Phase switches on Triple Tactics Talent. Its hand-look option can’t be stopped by Ash or Droll.
- Diactorus catches Traps from the hand. Infinite Impermanence and Dominus cards activated from the hand are activated on the field, so at 3 Types Diactorus can negate them.
- Pact works from the GY. Once Pact is in your GY (an Acropolis discard puts it there), it’s a Quick Effect that destroys a card without targeting it.
| Hand trap | In top lists | Hits hardest | Play around it | If it lands |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ash Blossom & Joyous Spring | 90% | Medius’s summon effect. Also every Deck search, Pact, Diactorus’s float, and Finmel’s summon (it includes a draw). | Open with Vandalism or Acropolis so Ash has something cheaper to hit | Medius stays on the field as a Fairy. If your regular Normal Summon is still free, name Power Patron with Acropolis and Normal Summon it. Otherwise Triple Tactics Talent is live. |
| Maxx “C”, Mulcharmy Fuwalos, Mulcharmy Purulia | 69%, 67%, 19% | Your summons | Use Ash on Maxx “C”, or Impasto if it’s live. They can only use a Mulcharmy while they control no cards. | End early on a Fusion, Acropolis and whatever trap you have. Triple Tactics Talent is live. |
| Droll & Lock Bird | 55% | Every add from the Deck after the first: Acropolis, Power Patron, Varnish, Vandalism | Make your first add the one you need. Special Summons and Sets from the Deck still work under Droll: Medius pulling Power Patron, Non-Finito’s Set, Graflare’s Set. | Let Non-Finito Set Acropolis and use Litera to take cards back from the GY |
| Infinite Impermanence, Effect Veiler | 38%, 32% | Power Patron before it fuses, Diactorus | Fuse in response (tool 1). At 3 Types, Diactorus negates an Impermanence from the hand. | Their target is only negated this turn |
| Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion | 32% | Litera’s summon (it adds from the GY), Litera’s Quick Effect, Medius’s GY effect, F&V’s revive | When you have a discard to spare, name Finmel before Litera | A negated Litera stays in your hand. Use another discard to add Finmel for your third Type. |
| Bystial Magnamhut, Bystial Druiswurm | 23%, 8% | Banish Medius or your LIGHT monsters from the GY | Don’t rely on Medius’s GY effect against them | — |
| Nibiru, the Primal Being | 19% | Your fifth summon. In Line 1 that’s Litera; in Line 3, Diactorus. | Count your summons (below) | Impasto negates it if it’s Set and you control a Fusion Monster |
| Dominus Impulse, Purge, Spark | 18%, 11%, 10% | Impulse: your Special Summon effects, Medius’s first. Purge: your searches. Spark: banishes a monster. It can come from their hand once you’ve activated a monster effect in the hand or GY, and every self-summon counts. | At 3 Types, Diactorus negates them | Impasto can’t touch them, because they’re Traps |
| Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit | 16% | Acropolis’s search (a face-up Spell activating) and Power Patron’s Fusion (a monster on the field activating). It destroys the card; it doesn’t negate. | Keep Vandalism face-up: it goes to the GY in Acropolis’s place, and the search still resolves | On Power Patron, the Fusion fails, but Power Patron still searches from the GY. On Diactorus, its negate still resolves and it floats into Medius. |

- Dominus Purge: Set it when you can. Activating it from your hand turns off Medius and Ash for the rest of the Duel, so do that only against a search that would beat you.
- Infinite Impermanence: from your hand only while you control no cards.
- Ghost Belle: their GY revives and recursion.
- Crossout Designator is in 26% of top lists. They name a card both decks run, usually Ash or Maxx “C”, and your copies are negated that turn. Spreading your hand traps across different names limits the damage.
Matchups
| Deck | What to fear | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Dracotail | Their Fusions come back from the GY whenever 2+ monsters go to any GY at once. That includes every Fusion you make, Nerva’s wipe and Super Poly. Dracotail Horn returns a monster in Attack Position; Dracotail Flame negates Acropolis; Dracotail Sting banishes from your GY. | Count their GY Fusions before any play that sends 2+ monsters. Prefer single removal: Crown, F&V, Impermanence. S:P can banish a Fusion from their GY. On your turn, use Diactorus’s position change to put your key monster in Defense Position so Horn can’t hit it. |
| Kewl Tune (and the Kewl Tune engine) | Kewl Tune Loudness War: their other Tuners can’t be targeted or destroyed by your effects, so a Nerva wipe misses them. Kewl Tune B2B: summons again when you activate monster effects, twice a turn. Kewl Tune RS: negates a face-up card such as Acropolis. Zalen: punishes chaining. | Going second: Super Poly Loudness War and another Tuner into Sea Monster of Theseus. Or use Finmel’s negate first, which switches off Loudness War’s protection, then wipe with Nerva. TY-PHON shuts off B2B (3200 ATK). Going first: Diactorus for their on-field Quick Effects, Impasto for their effects in the hand or GY. |
| Elfnote (and the Elfnote engine) | Synchros that care about the center Main Monster Zone. Elfnote June Pride in the center zone stops attacks except from center zones. | Diactorus and Impasto on their Quick Effects. Going second, remove June Pride before the Battle Phase. Super Poly two same-Attribute Elfnotes into Mudragon. |
| Branded | Mirrorjade the Iceblade Dragon: if you make it leave the field, all your monsters are destroyed in the End Phase. Rindbrumm the Striking Dragon: negates Fusion Monster effects (Diactorus, Non-Finito, Nerva). | Negate Branded Fusion with Diactorus; Ash hits it too. Only remove Mirrorjade on a lethal turn; otherwise Crown it, or use TY-PHON (it has 3000 ATK) but don’t bounce it. Super Poly their Albaz with your LIGHT monster into Albion. Send Albion with F&V, not Ecclesia: an Ecclesia in your GY makes their Dragon that Devours the Dogma unaffected. |
| Clown Crew | Clown Crew Biancaviso: Tribute Summoned, it negates face-up cards equal to the number of monsters Tributed, and it can Tribute Summon during your Main Phase. | Crown the Tribute fodder (a Crowned monster can’t be Tributed). Finmel’s negate. Super Poly two of their LIGHT Beast-Warriors into Garura. |
| Sky Striker | Sky Striker Mecha - Widow Anchor negates one of your monsters this turn, and with 3+ Spells in their GY it takes control of it until the End Phase: your Diactorus or Nerva. Sky Striker Mecha Modules - Multirole stops you responding to their Spells. Most of their cards are Set Quick-Play Spells. | Graflare destroys their Set cards: at Quick speed with 3 Types, and on your turn with no Types needed. Diactorus negates their Spells unless Multirole is up. Impasto’s bounce sends their whole backrow back to the hand. Finmel stops Widow Anchor targeting Graflare and Litera. See the Sky Striker Field Guide for their side. |

| Extra (15) | 2 Artmage Non-Finito, 2 Artmage Diactorus, 1 Nerva the Power Patron of Creation, 1 Albion the Branded Dragon, 1 Ecclesia and the Dark Dragon, 1 Mudragon of the Swamp, 1 Predaplant Dragostapelia, 1 Predaplant Verte Anaconda, 1 Garura, Wings of Resonant Life, 1 Sea Monster of Theseus, 1 Super Starslayer TY-PHON - Sky Crisis, 1 Cross-Sheep, 1 S:P Little Knight |
Why these ratios
- 3 Graflare, 1 Litera. Graflare is the first Acropolis name in almost every line, and a drawn Graflare works with Acropolis, Varnish or Power Patron. Litera is almost always searched, and one copy is enough for the Acropolis loop.
- 2 Medius, 2 Power Patron. Their effects are once per turn by name, and Vandalism adds Medius. The second Power Patron stays in the Deck for Medius on the opponent’s turn.
- 1 of each Artmage Trap. Power Patron, Varnish, Non-Finito and Litera all fetch them.
- Traps over monster hand traps. They’re Acropolis discards and Non-Finito’s cost, and a Trap in the GY turns on Dominus Purge’s destroy.
- F&V with 2 fuel cards. Three copies before October 6, two after. Albion gets an F&V back in the End Phase, and Ecclesia shuffles itself back into the Extra Deck.
Flex options
Master Duel Meta recorded 9 Artmage lists between September 3 and 23. Six came from the Dice Rally event, which uses its own Forbidden list. Other cards those lists play:
- Artmage Masterwork -Succession- (7 of 9): a Quick-Play Fusion from the hand or field that doesn’t use Power Patron’s once per turn. +500 ATK with a Field Spell out.
- Azamina Ilia Silvia (5) and Magistus Chorozo (4): Extra Deck monsters that use Litera (a LIGHT Spellcaster) as material. 3 lists run 2 Litera.
- Harpie’s Feather Duster (4, Limited 1) and Lightning Storm (2): Spell/Trap removal for going second. Lightning Storm needs you to control no face-up cards, so play it before Vandalism or Acropolis.
- Mulcharmy Fuwalos (2): draws a card each time the opponent Special Summons from the Deck or Extra Deck.
- Artmage Movement -Pedigree- (1): a Normal Spell that Special Summons an Artmage monster from the Deck while they control more monsters than you. Discarded to Acropolis, it returns an Artmage Trap from the GY or banishment. Only Fusions from the Extra Deck that turn.
- Artmage Peripeteia -Turmoil- (0): a Normal Trap that returns your Artmage monster to take a monster from their GY, with its effects negated. Discarded to Acropolis, it returns an Artmage Spell.
Easy to forget
- Types only count face-up monsters. Acropolis and Vandalism are Artmage cards for self-summons, but they add no Type.
- Medius and Nerva aren’t Artmage. Medius counts as Artmage only as Fusion Material, and only after Vandalism marks it.
- Power Patron’s search can’t take a card whose name is already in your GY.
- Acropolis can’t name a monster you control face-up, or the same name twice in a turn.
- Graflare, Finmel and Litera only summon themselves during your own Main Phase. Litera’s Quick Effect only works in their Main Phase and needs a free zone.
- Litera can be Normal Summoned. It’s Level 3, so with no face-up Artmage card, Normal Summon it, and Graflare or Finmel can summon themselves. Acropolis still gives Medius its own extra Normal Summon.
- Set this turn, used this turn: Varnish, Vandalism and Acropolis (Normal, Continuous and Field Spells), and Impasto while you control an Artmage monster. Not Pact.
- Varnish with Acropolis face-up searches any Artmage card, Monster or Spell/Trap, except Varnish.
- Impasto’s banish lasts until the End Phase. On your own turn, the Fusion comes back that same turn.
- Non-Finito can never be revived. Diactorus and Nerva can once properly summoned, but not Nerva from the GY after an Acropolis search.
- Nerva is safe from effect destruction while there’s a card in either Field Zone. Theirs counts too.
- Diactorus floats only when it’s destroyed. Tributing or banishing it doesn’t count.
- Super Poly can’t use monsters in your hand.
- One F&V per turn. Its revive needs an Ecclesia monster on your field or in your GY.
- A negated activation still uses the once per turn. A Ghost Belled Litera can’t try again that turn.
Where it’s thin
- Meta data: the tier list is Master Duel Meta’s on September 23, 2026. The hand-trap shares come from the 875 top-placing lists it recorded between September 3 and 23, which mix tournament results, Master I climbs and win streaks.
- Card text: every card was checked against Master Duel’s in-game text and the game scripts on September 23, 2026. The in-game wording differs from the TCG text in places, but no effect is different.
- Opening numbers: every 5-card hand was solved, but with no interaction from the opponent and without Finmel’s draw.
- Their turn: the Nerva line assumes they don’t stop Litera or Power Patron, and they can respond to both.
